Sherio’s life hasn’t been smooth sailing, but he hasn’t let it turn him bitter or hostile. He’s chosen to be a supporter and solace for other foster pets. Sherio understands firsthand how overwhelming it can be to transition to a new home. Even though he’s in a caring and affectionate home now, it wasn’t always like that.
Sherio has faced numerous challenges in finding his forever home as he is not just deaf but also partially blind. Despite being adopted four times, he was returned each time. His difficult journey includes living in two shelters and twelve foster homes.
After a long journey, he eventually crossed paths with Sheryl Smith who accepted him wholeheartedly, including his disabilities. Fortunately, Smith had a soft spot for animals in need, which led to her decision to adopt Sherio. Grateful for finally having a loving family, Sherio is now dedicated to spreading the love and paying it forward. He consistently lends his helping paw to all the furry friends that Smith brings home to foster.
Sherio takes great care to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the animals in need. He showers them with affectionate licks and kisses, and does his best to offer them comfort during difficult times.
During an interview with the Dodo, Smith shared a heartwarming story about Sherio, a rescued dog who has an incredible bond with other animals. After saving a sick, pregnant dog who couldn’t care for her puppies, Sherio climbed into the crate with them and began cleaning them. Since then, he has continued to do the same with every animal that Smith brings home, patiently sitting with feral cats and kittens until they trust him just as much as they trust her.
Sherio’s immense love and concern for the animals he fosters is not surprising, considering he has experienced a similar fate many times. Despite finally finding a permanent home, Sherio still battles separation anxiety as a result of his past experiences. According to Smith, Sherio weeps in the car because he believes he is being abandoned somewhere else. However, Smith and her family are committed to helping Sherio overcome his fears and improve his self-assurance.
In the meantime, Sherio has emerged as a significant source of support for numerous animals in distress. Recently, Smith rescued a stray kitten named Tiny Tolley who was critically ill and undernourished. Without Smith’s intervention and care, the little kitten would not have survived. As Tiny Tolley regained her strength and health, Sherio remained steadfast by her side, doing his part to provide comfort and companionship. Ultimately, when the kitten was well enough to explore her new surroundings, Sherio greeted her with a few slobbery puppy kisses. Although it’s unclear whether or not the kisses were appreciated, Sherio’s unwavering love and presence were undoubtedly cherished.
Sherio has turned his past sorrows into something positive and is now leading a fulfilling life. Despite having to deal with anxiety, he displays love and compassion which have a positive impact on the animals he encounters. His new family is proud of him and reminds him daily that he is safe, loved, and has a permanent home in their hearts.
