However, Meena’s life was not easy when she was just nine months old, as she was left in a basket on a university campus in Pune, India.
When Meena was found, she was taken to an orphanage in Mumbai. Fortunately, after a year, she was adopted by a couple who lived in the same city. Eventually, they moved to San Jose, California, where Meena lives happily now.
Meena’s love for animals has been evident since her days in Mumbai. She used to take care of a bunch of cute puppies at her home. After moving to the United States, she started spending some time every week volunteering at either the Humane Society or the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. This amazing nonprofit organization saves approximately 1,000 dogs every year, with the help of volunteers like Meena. Unlike other animal shelters, Muttville does not put dogs in cages. Instead, they provide the elderly dogs with a new chance at life.
Meena became interested after her neighbor shared about a rescue center that had assisted her in finding a cute companion. The stories of how these facilities change ignored senior dogs into loving and devoted pets through gentle care captivated her attention.
In her interview with CNN, Meena shared her opinion that adopting older dogs is a great way to experience the same level of love and affection as any other dog. She empathized with their situation as she knew what it felt like to be abandoned, and wanted to help these older dogs find a loving home. However, her age became a barrier as she was only 12 and required to be at least 17 years old to volunteer at the shelter. Despite this setback, Meena remained enthusiastic about her cause.
Meena was determined to help Muttville and came up with a clever idea to do so. She started a fundraising campaign by promoting her pet sitting services on Nextdoor, which she called Pet Fairy Services. Meena looked after her neighbors’ and friends’ pets in her own place to earn money for Muttville.
Meena believes that age should not be a hindrance in starting a business. Her dedication and hard work have helped her raise $7,000 for Muttville in just two years by charging $35 per day. She did not stop there as Intel’s generous donation program doubled the amount to $14,000. This was made possible through the help of her adoptive father who works at the company.

This initiative has played a vital role in supporting Meena’s cause and can serve as an example for other companies to follow. Thanks to Intel’s program, Meena has been able to make a substantial contribution to the shelter’s efforts, making it simpler to find forever homes for dogs in need.
