Black cats are renowned for their innate coolness. Their adorable black paws, twitchy whiskers, and lustrous, smooth black fur give them a unique charm. Meet Kole, an enormous black cat weighing a whopping 17 lbs. His striking green-yellow eyes with round pupils add to his captivating appeal. Unlike most felines, Kole loves dressing up and posing for the camera. I reached out to his owner to showcase this impressive rescue cat on our platform, and she kindly obliged. What’s the story behind how Kole became a part of your family?
As a child, I always wanted a cat but couldn’t have one due to my brother’s severe allergies. After getting married, I started searching for a hypoallergenic breed, and Siberians caught my eye. I found a rescue page where someone had saved a litter of Siberian kittens from an inhumane breeder. When my husband and I met the kittens, Kole stood out as he snuggled right into our laps. We knew he was meant to be ours.
How did Kole get his name?
Kole was named by the rescuer and his siblings all had Christmas names since they were born near the holiday season. Kole’s name was a play on the word “coal” because he’s black. However, I researched the name and discovered that it was a diminutive of Niklaus, which means Nicholas in Slavic. As someone who loves all things Christmas, I decided that the name suited him perfectly. The day we brought Kole home, it snowed heavily, making him our special snow cat.
What are Kole’s preferred hobbies?
Kole’s preferences for hobbies seem to include indulging in food, snoozing, and snuggling. However, I had to regulate his calorie intake as he tends to eat excessively. Despite this, he purrs like a motorboat whenever he gets his meals, indicating that he remains content. Similar to most felines, Kole relishes sleeping, and his favorite spots for napping are either on the floor, lying on his back, or basking in the warmth of a favorite human’s lap. Once he has decided to rest on you, be prepared to be confined for the next couple of hours.
It appears that Kole has a sense of fashion. What is his take on wearing clothes?
Yes, Kole enjoys wearing outfits, and I used to only dress him up during Halloween and quickly remove the costume for fear of agitating him. However, I discovered that he does not mind the attire and even appears to revel in the attention. In some cases, the clothes make him more cuddly. Although I never leave them on him for too long and never without supervision, he seems to adore being a miniature model, particularly because modeling comes with plenty of tasty treats.
Is there a furry companion living with him?
Certainly, Kole shares his home with an older sibling, King, who is a 6lb Yorkshire Terrier. King used to rule the roost until Kole arrived, even dominating dogs twice his size. He thought he would be able to do the same with Kole but was proven wrong when Kole, at just three months old, established dominance over him. Being three times King’s size doesn’t hurt either. Kole loves playing with King and often tries to ambush and pounce on him, but King doesn’t comprehend cat language, so he refuses to participate. Despite this, they often snuggle together on the couch with their owners.
Is there something unique that makes Kole stand out? Well, unlike any other pet that I have had in the past, Kole seems to possess an empathetic trait. Although it is uncertain how much he understands, when I’m feeling anxious or upset, he always senses it and comes straight to my lap for an extended cuddle session. It’s as though he has a keen sense of knowing when I need his comfort. Additionally, Kole has learned to communicate with us humans. Depending on what we say, he responds with different meows. If we scold him for doing something mischievous, he whines with a “ME-OOW!” If we ask him if he’s hungry, he exclaims with an enthusiastic “Meow! Meow! Meow!” And, if we indulge in some sweet baby-talk, he softly purrs with a gentle “me-ow” while nudging his head for more pets. In summary, Kole is our one-of-a-kind furry companion who holds a special place in our hearts.
